BETHPAGE, NY- The Bethpage Eagles (6-6-0-1) won big on Tuesday night with a 12-7 victory over the Half Hollow Hills Hornets (5-6).

With the win Bethpage (4th place) now holds a three-point advantage over the Hornets (5th place) in Varsity Conference I.

Jonathan Wheeler scored a hat-trick in the loss for the Hornets including the opening and closing goals. His first came just 20 seconds in as he buried a great pass from Jett Lucas on the doorstep.

That would be the start of an eventful first period. Marko Lisica then scored three straight goals at 2:02, 5:29 and 9:23 of the first period, a natural hat trick to make the score 3-1 Bethpage.

Wheeler got a goal back with 4:06 left in the first to cut the Bethpage lead to 3-2. In the final four minutes of the first period, there were four more goals.

Lisica scored his fourth at 11:47, before Alexander Blesi scored for HHH 33 seconds after. The 4-3 score did not last for long as Lisica decided to get it right back with another goal, 13 seconds later.

Nicholas Morolla scored his first of two goals on the night with 59 seconds left in the first period. Bethpage led after a very active first period by a 6-3 score.

The second period was no different as there were six goals in the middle frame compared to nine from the first.

HHH struck first as Jett Lucas scored 30 seconds in to make it 6-4. After Lisica’s fifth of the night 2:42 into the frame, HHH willed back into it.

Goals from Elijah Bartow and Josh Mosbacher at 3:05 and 9:06 of the period brought HHH within one goal, being down 7-6.

This is as close as Hills would get however as 1:55 later Morolla’s second of the night would come as the eventual game-winning-goal.

Billy Wendell recorded his first goal of the season to close out the second period and put Bethpage up 9-6 at the break.

The third period had four goals. Michael Sheahan, like Wendell scored his first of the season to make it double-digit goals for the Eagles.

Lisica scored another pair for eight on the night before Wheeler’s hat-trick goal closed out the game.

Leo Agugliero was the winning goaltender for the Eagles.
