Datlos Four-Piece Puts Friends Academy Over Cold Spring Harbor

BETHPAGE, NY- Cold Spring Harbor fell to 1-6-0-1 in Varsity Conference II after suffering a 7-3 loss to Friends Academy (8-5-1).

Two minutes into the game, Owen Neri scored his first of the season to give Cold Spring Harbor a 1-0 lead. A burst of speed on an impressive solo effort was finished with a nice move, putting the puck into the net.

Damon Datlo had himself a night with four goals. His first was 7:02 into the game with a top-corner shot off the rush to tie it for Friends.

Back-to-back goals from Blaise Saad gave Friends a 3-1 lead. The first goal was a rebound slammed home on the power play. The next, a sleek backhand move on a breakaway.

3-1 was the score entering the second period. CSH tied it up on back-to-back goals of their own about halfway through the period.

Tucker Whelehan and Bryce Albers scored those goals. CSH held that lead until there were 11 seconds left in the period.

Datlo gave Friends the lead back with a quick snap shot on the breakaway.

The third period was all Friends Academy. 43 seconds into the period, Datlo completed his hat trick and regained his team’s four-goal lead.

In the final four minutes, Remon Cao added a goal to an already impressive three-assist performance. Datlo added one more goal for good measure into an empty net with 59 seconds to go, moving the score to 7-3.

Clarke Beard was the winning goaltender for Friends Academy with an impressive performance, stopping 28 of 31 shots.

Cold Spring Harbor will look to get back in the win column Wednesday as they play last-place Farmingdale at the Clark Gillies Arena at 8:40 pm.

Friends Academy has a slight break, as they do not retake the ice until Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 6:15 pm. They take on Plainview-Old Bethpage/Island Trees at The Town Of Oyster Bay Skating Center.
