HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (LISN)Junior Anthony Cutalo netted a natural hat-trick in a four goal performance and scored one of the St. Anthony’s Friars two shootout goals in a 5-4 victory over Sachem in the SCHSHL Semifinals to set up a finals rematch against the Smithtown/ Hauppauge Bulls.

Senior Dom Feiler made four saves in the shootout to cap a stellar showing in goal for St. Anthony’s

Senior Brody O’Doherty scored the golden goal in the shootout for the Friars.

Junior Michael DiGirolamo started in goal for Sachem.

Junior Joe Wandling scored with 5:47 remaining in the opening stanza to give Sachem a 1-0 lead. Junior Tyler Loret fired a high shot that went off the glass, the puck popped out on the doorstep, and Wandling went five-hole.

Junior Kevin Lysohir extended the Sachem lead to 2-0 with 12 seconds to go in the first frame.

Senior Dom Oppedisano entered the zone and made a quick pass to Lysohir, who rifled a shot that went off Feiler’s stick on its way to the back of the net.

Cutalo netted a power-play marker for St. Anthony’s with 9:41 left in the 2nd period to cut the deficit to 2-1. Senior James Schendorf made a cross-crease feed to Cutalo for a one-timer that beat DiGirolamo as he slide right to left.

Cutalo tied the game with a shorthanded goal at 7:44 in the second stanza. The junior forced a turnover in his own zone before dropping it off for Sophomore Tommy Azzariti, who raced up ice to create a near 2 on 0 for the Friars. Azzariti entered the zone, delayed to avoid a diving defender, and made a pass to Cutalo for a shorthanded, one-timer.

Cutalo completed the natural hat-trick with 43 seconds left in the 2nd period to make it 3-2. Cutalo outmuscled a defender along the left wing wall, carried the puck around the left wing dot, and put it beneath the blocker of DiGirolamo to score short side.

Oppedisano knotted things up at 3 with 9:27 remaining in the 3rd period. Junior Cameron Kalberer dangled from the left wing wall towards center before handing it off to Oppedisano, who walked in and went forehand-backhand to beat Feiler.

8 seconds later, Cutalo responded with his fourth of the game for St. Anthony’s. The junior collected the puck off the draw, drifted right to left as he entered the zone, and sniped glove side high.

Kalberer tied the game with 5:58 left in the final frame. Junior James Drago pitched the puck into the zone, it went off the back of Oppedisano’s stick, and Kalberer collected it before coming in to go forehand-backhand.

After a scoreless overtime, the game headed to a shootout where who else but Anthony Cutalo struck first for the Friars?

Cutalo came in quickly and fired a well placed shot above the pad of DiGirolamo.

Wandling responded on Sachem’s fifth and final shot in the shootout, sniping glove side to tie it, but St. Anthony’s had one shot to spare.

Senior Brody O’Doherty came in slowly, drifting lazily to the left before inching back towards center and taking an unassuming wrist shot that beat DiGirolamo stick side.
