Cantalupo Strikes Back

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (LISN) — Senior Jackson Cantalupo netted a natural hat-trick, including the game winning goal, to secure a 5-2 win for the Smithtown/Hauppauge Bulls and force a Game Three against the St. Anthony’s Friars on Friday, February 21 at 10:10 p.m.

Senior Aidan Halliday allowed two goals against in a stellar start for Smithtown/Hauppauge.

Senior Shane Reidy scored a power play goal in the Bulls win.

Senior Dom Feiler started in goal for the Friars.

26 seconds into the 1st period, Senior James Aspromonti potted his first goal of the playoffs to make it 1-0 St. Anthony’s. Aspromonti redirected a shot by Senior James Schendorf past Halliday after the two forwards worked together to break up a zone exit attempt by Smithtown/Hauppauge. 

Reidy responded for Smithtown/Hauppauge with a power play marker at 8:45 in the opening stanza. Senior Ray Sherwood pushed the puck forward for a broken zone entry, Senior Max Campo collected it to create a 2 on 1, and slid it across for Reidy for a one-timer. 

Senior Brody O’Doherty responded with a power play goal of his own to give the Friars a 2-2 lead with 10:57 left in the 2nd period. O’Doherty sniped low glove side on a shot through traffic. 

Cantalupo scored the third consecutive power play goal of the game to tie the game at 2 with 3:42 left in the second stanza. The senior sniper beat Feiler on a one-timer from the high slot. 

Cantalupo netted his second power play goal of the game with 11:11 remaining in the 3rd period. Cantalupo fired a one-timer from outside the left wing face off dot to beat glove side high.

Cantalupo completed the natural hat-trick at 4:49 in the 3rd period. Senior J.P. D’Allessandro forced a turnover before Cantalupo sniped top cheddar. 

Campo potted an empty-netter to seal the 5-2 victory with 1:56 to go in regulation.
