Tyler Granelli Scores Golden Goal In OT For KPC

Tyler Granelli scored the game winning goal in overtime as the Kings Park Commack Knights (12-1-2-2) won 5-4 against Sachem (12-3-1-1). Jayson Krauthamer picked up his league leading eighth win for KPC. Michael DiGirolamo made his eleventh start of the of the season for Sachem. KPC was forced to kill off two major penalties in the 2nd period, including an extended 5 on 3 advantage for Sachem, as All-Star defenseman Sean Richardson and second line center John Coyle were assessed match penalties. KPC entered the night without Ryan Walsh and Nick Sattler due to injury. Sachem was without Cameron Kalberer, Michael Mattera and Christopher O’Hea on Sunday night .

Ronald Kemly buried a rebound to put the Knights up 1-0 on the power play with 10:37 remaining in the 1st period. Jack Salva capitalized on a 2 on 1 opportunity to extend the Knights lead to two with 6:00 left in the first frame. Joe Capece sniped from the point on the power play to open the scoring for Sachem with 3:52 remaining in the period. Colin Kalberer buried a rebound off a shot by Thomas Konkowski with 2:43 remaining in the 1st period to tie the game.

Alp Octu buried a rebound to put Sachem up by one with 9:24 remaining in the second stanza. After Richardson was assessed a five minute major and game misconduct for unsportsmanlike conduct, Jesse Lemza scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game with 7:41 remaining in the 2nd period. Jayson Krauthamer and the Knights penalty kill were rolling, but a five minute slashing major that was assessed to Coyle gave Sachem a golden opportunity to retake the league. Thomas Konkowski fired a one-time clapper to put Sachem up by one with 4:18 remaining in the second frame. It was Sachem’s lone goal on a two minute and twenty-two second 5 on 3. The Knights were shorthanded for a grand total of seven minutes and thirty-eight seconds in the frame. 

Jesse Lemza scored the game-tying goal with 5:29 remaining in the 3rd period to send the game to overtime. With 35 seconds remaining in overtime Tyler Granelli sniped top shelf to secure a stunning overtime victory for the Knights.

Upcoming Schedule

The Kings Park Commack Knights will look to pick up their second win in as many nights against the West Islip Lions at the Rinx on Monday January 22nd at 9:40 PM. The Knights won 4-0 against the Lions in their first meeting of the season.

Sachem will look to bounce back into the win column against a strong East Islip Chiefs squad on Wednesday January 24th at 7:50 PM. East Islip defeated Sachem 5-4 in their first meeting of the season.
