HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) Senior Luke Tannenbaum led the Ward Melville Patriots (2-4) to a 5-3 victory over the Northport-Huntington Tigers (3-3). Senior Aidan Ayers scored the shorthanded, game winning goal. Senior Ethan Tam scored twice to secure the win for Ward Melville.

Sophomore Owen Karpioch has now scored two goals in three straight appearances for Northport-Huntington. Junior Brett Kostor made his third start of the season for the Tigers.

Senior Timmy Brown netted a shorty, his second goal of the season, to make it 1-0 Ward Melville with 8:22 left in the 1st period. Brown forced a turnover in the neutral zone before throwing it on net. Senior Michael Maldari gathered the puck and dished it to Brown who put it past the outstretched pad of Kostor

Senior Anthony Cerulli extended the Patriots lead to two with 3:27 remaining in the first frame. Cerulli beat the defender, whipped around the cage, and put it top shelf to beat the diving netminder.

Karpioch scored a shorthanded goal with 8:17 to go in the 2nd period. The Sophomore stole the puck away from Ward Melville in the neutral zone, muscled by a defender as he entered the Patriots zone, and sniped stick side.

31 seconds later, Tam scored as the Patriots power play expired to put Ward Melville back up by two. Junior James Fisher threw it on net and the rebound caromed out to Tam who rifled it above the pad of the sliding goaltender.

Junior Joseph Buonocore nearly answered back on the power play, but Tannenbaum made a sprawling save to shut the door.

Junior J.T. Caruso netted a power play goal to cut Ward Melville’s lead in half with 3:34 remaining in the second stanza. Caruso dangled past two defenders before sliding it five-hole as he was taken down to the ice.

Ayers scored the game winning goal 11 seconds later to make it 4-2 Patriots. The Senior entered the zone, carrying it left-to-right before cutting back in beneath the ring wing face off circle and beat the goalie five-hole.

Ward Melville called timeout after drawing a penalty late in the 2nd period, but they were unable to capitalize.

Tannenbaum made another sensational stop in the final 30 seconds of the period, sliding left-to-right to make a blocker save to deny a Patriots two on one opportunity.

Karpioch potted his second of the night and sixth of the season with 7 seconds left in the 2nd period. The Sophomore star fired a shot through traffic that trickled past the goaltender

Tam scored his fourth of the season with 8:43 remaining in the 3rd period. The Senior sniper streaked through the offensive zone, firing a one-timer from the back door that was assisted by Senior Anthony Giantinoto

Ward Melville successfully defended their two goal lead after Northport-Huntington went empty-net in the final minute of regulation.
