Seahawks Strike Back
Sean Ecker scored the game winning goal with 7:20 remaining in the third period. Jake Panetta made 35 saves as he backstopped the Seahawks to a 2-1 win. John Schmidt made 22 stops for the Cyclones. The Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks moved to 1-1 on the campaign. The Rockville Center Cyclones dropped to 2-2.
The Cyclones game out firing on all cylinders in the opening minutes of the first frame. Jake Panetta was peppered with shots, but the Seahawks netminder kept the game tied in the first five minutes of play. A penalty by Benny Biniamin put the Cyclones on the kill, but John Schmidt and the PK kept the game tied. Biniamin scored the first and only goal of the game for RVC with 6:58 remaining in the first frame. The Cyclones led by one after fifteen minutes of play.
Cold Spring Harbor stormed back in the second stanza. The Seahawks drew two penalties in a span of sixty-two seconds, but were unable to capitalize on the 5 on 3. Cyclones goaltender John Schmidt was sensational on the PK for the Cyclones. The Seahawks went on to draw a total four minor penalties in the second frame, but were unable to capitalize on the power play. Cold Spring Harbor was called for just one penalty in the period. With 10:38 remaining in the frame, Jack Rivkin scored his first career NYIHSHL varsity goal for the Seahawks. The Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks and Rockville Center Cyclones were tied at one apiece after thirty minutes.
Entering the third period, the Cyclones had committed five minor penalties to the Seahawks two. RVC was also without Maxim Torkiver after the centerman was called for a ten minute misconduct in the second frame. The Cyclones and Seahawks traded scoring chances, but neither team could score at 5 on 5 in the final frame. RVC picked up the pace after Torkiver came out of the box, but that sudden surge was short lived. A two and ten for boarding led to the Cyclones center leaving the ice. Sean Ecker scored the power play game winner to put the Seahawks up by 1. The RVC Cyclones went empty net in an effort to tie the game, but the Cold Spring Harbor Seahawks held on to pick up their first win of the campaign.
