Sachem Nets Seven in Win #11

on

Richie Bovich scored the eventual game winning goal as Sachem (11-2-1) defeated the West Islip Lions (3-11) by a final score of 7-0. Michael DiGirolamo picked up his first career Varsity shutout in his fifth win of the campaign. Tyler Sapoff made his seventh start of the season for West Islip.

Richie Bovich went bar down to score a shorthanded goal from the top of the right wing face off circle to open the scoring for Sachem with 7:52 remaining in the 1st period. Alp Octu was credited with the lone assist on the goal after pickpocketing a Lions defenseman on an attempted zone entry, resetting behind his own net and making the stretch pass to Bovich. The Sachem star scored his second of the game on a shot from beneath the hash marks that came on the power play with 4:01 remaining in the first frame. Bovich celebrated by pointing to winger Nick McGuire, who made a nice move to beat the defender to the outside before making the beautifully placed backhanded pass to Bovich. One minute and fifteen seconds later John Golden received a drop pass from Greg Monthie before firing a quick wrist shot from the top of the right wing face off dot that slipped over the outstretched pad and beneath the blocker of Sapoff. With under two minutes remaining in the first frame, Colin Kalberer forced a turnover beneath the West Islip goal line and fired a pass to a wide open Thomas Konkowski who was all alone in front of the net. The Sachem Captain made a quick Spin-O-Rama before going top shelf on a beauty of a backhander to give Sachem a 4-0 lead with 1:23 remaining in the 1st period of play.

At the start of the second stanza Sachem power forward Greg Monthie entered the West Islip zone with Alp Octu on a two on one odd man rush. With two backcheckers hot on his tail, Monthie threaded the needle to Octu who beat Sapoff five hole to extend the Sachem lead to five.

Cameron Kalberer went bar down on a shot from just above the left wing hash marks that gave Sachem a 6-0 lead. Finn Wood attempted to fire back for the Lions, but Michael DiGirolamo shut the door on Wood’s wrap around attempt. Greg Monthie scored the seventh goal of the game for Sachem on a shot from the right wing face off dot that beat Sapoff glove side high. An attempted Michigan by Thomas Konkowski was brought to an unceremonious end by Lions blue liners John Kolich and Andrew Mervyak who went over the top to knock the puck off the Sachem Captain’s stick.
