Sachem Goes Sicko Mode

Dom Oppedisano scored twice in a four point performance to power Sachem (3-1) to a 4-2 victory over the Ward Melville Patriots (1-3). Freshman Roman Cruz scored on the power play in his varsity debut. Sophomore C.J. Pena2nd netted the eventual game winning goal. Senior Scott Loeb picked up his second win in as many starts. Senior Luke Tannenbaum was stellar in goal for Ward Melville.

Cruz got the scoring started with 4:06 left in the opening frame to put Sachem up 1-0. Senior Joey Capece found Oppedisano for a one-timer, Tannenbaum slid left-to-right to make a beautiful save, and Cruz buried the rebound. 

Oppedisano made it 2-0 with 12:47 remaining in the second stanza. The Sachem star rifled it past Tannebaum after receiving a pass from Freshman Will Trapani who picked up his first career varsity assist.

Senior Michael Eilenberger scored his second of the season on the power play with 7:44 remaining in the 2nd period to make it a one score game. Eilenberger rifled one past Loeb after a turnover in the slot by Ward Melville.

Pena scored his third of the season on the power play with 1:03 remaining to make it 3-1 Sachem. Pena redirected a shot from the point by Oppedisano past Tannenbaum.

Aidan Ayers scored his third of the season on the power play with 3:58 left in the 3rd period to make it a 3-2 game. Ayers buried it on the doorstep after Senior Anthony Cerulli moved it to the net front.


Oppedisano scored an unassisted, empty net goal to seal the deal for Sachem with 24 seconds left. Oppedisano overpowered a defender in his own zone, carried it all the way done and guided it into the open cage.

Upcoming Schedule

Sachem clashes with their most bitter rival, the Smithtown-Hauppauge Bulls, on Monday October 14 with puck drop set for 8:10 PM.

Then at 9:40, the Ward Melville Patriots will look to get back in the win column against the undefeated St. Anthony’s Friars.
