Insana Scores Game Winner In Double OT Thriller
Jack Insana scored the game winner as the Massapequa Chiefs won 4-3 in double OT over Manhasset Great Neck. Connor Coyle made 33 saves as Massapequa clinched the 7th seed in the 2023-2024 playoffs and secured their spot in Varsity Conference I for the 2024-2025 season. Udit Suri made 37 saves in a heartbreaking loss for Manhasset Great Neck.
Jake Sylvia scored just 51 seconds into the game to give Manhasset Great Neck a 1-0 lead. Mike Mondiello won the draw forward, circled the net and moved the puck to Harry Toumbekis who made a pass to Sylvia for the net front goal. Alex Morris sniped stick side high in transition to even the score with 6:29 left in the first frame.
Mark Ditore put Manhasset Great Neck back up by one with 9:59 remaining in the second stanza. Ditore carried the puck up ice, split the defense and went forehand-backhand to beat Coyle short side. Ryan Simpson fired a shot from the point that redirected off a defender and past Suri with 2:58 remaining in the 2nd period to tie the game at 2-2.
The Chiefs took their first lead of the night with 8:58 remaining in the 3rd period. Hudson Scnatter forced a turnover off a zone exit which led to the puck entering the offensive zone where Anthony Galgano made the defender cough it up along the left wing wall. Schnatter collected the puck to create a 2 on 1 opportunity and threaded the needle on a pass to Galgano who went top shelf. Chris Tsoromokos tied the game with 4:45 remaining in the third frame. Tsoromokos entered 2 on 4, circled the zone, faked a drop pass at the top of the right wing face circle before walking into the slot and firing a shot that went bar down.
Hudson Schnatter went coast-to-coast in double overtime, curled towards the left wing corner before dishing it off to Jack Insana, who beat the defender with a toe drag. Insana fired a quick wrist shot that went off the pipe and into the back of the net to win the game.
