Bulls Pot 7 On Senior Night
Jackson Cantalupo completed the hat-trick in a five point performance as the Smithtown Hauppauge Bulls (11-4-3-1) defeated the Northport Huntington Tigers (7-12) by a final score of 7-1 on Senior Night. Patrick Ryan backstopped the Bulls to victory. Boden Rudloff got the nod in net for the Tigers. Justin Cahn looked strong in his varsity debut for the Tigers.
Max Campo opened the scoring with 2:50 remaining in the 1st period. An errant pass in the offensive zone by the Tigers sent the puck all the way down the ice where Boden Rudloff came out of his crease to play the puck as Jackson Cantalupo came in on the forecheck, Rudloff fired the puck up the left wing wall, but Shane Reidy intercepted the pass for the Bulls and dished it back to Cantalupo, who made a cross ice feed to the back door for Campo to score.
Maksim Sposato evened the score with 12:21 left in the second stanza. Eric Craft won the draw back to Sposato who fired a shot from the point that beat Ryan. Jackson Cantalupo made a great individual effort to put the Bulls back up by one with 5:46 remaining in the 2nd period. Cantalupo won a battle along the boards, finessed his way to the slot and sniped glove side high for the eventual game winner. Jackson Cantalupo went coast-to-coast on the power play and went top shelf to extend the lead to 3-1 with 3:33 remaining.
Bobby Trites lit the lamp to blow the game wide open with 5:16 remaining in the final frame. C.J. Guglielmo forced a turnover in the neutral zone, made a lead pass to Cantalupo who dropped it off to Trites, who fired a bottle rocket. 17 seconds later R.J. Pfister charged up ice, went forehand-backhand as he blew by the defense and fired a shot that led to a rebound for a trailing Campo to cash in on. Three players including Northport Huntington’s Blake Brown and Austin Ruthkowski as well as Smithtown Hauppauge’s Patrick Malone were assessed game misconducts with 4:29 left in the period. With 3:19 remaining in regulation Jackson Cantalupo scored his third of the game on the power play. R.J Pfister was separated from the puck as he tried to split the defense, Rudloff poked it away from the net front, but Cantalupo intercepted it in the slot and sniped top shelf. Brendan Landrigan scored a shorthanded goal on a 5 on 3 with 1:23 left in the 3rd period. David Wetzel chipped it off the wall, Landrigan skated into it as he carried it up ice and fired it stick side high to cap off the night.
