Friars Comeback To Defeat T-Birds

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (LISN) — Senior Brody O’Doherty scored twice as the St. Anthony’s Friars (15-0-0) secured a 5-4 comeback win over the Connetquot/Sayville T-Birds (3-12-0) to stay perfect on the season.

Junior Thomas Azzariti scored the go-ahead goal for the Friars. Junior Anthony Cutalo delivered the game-winning goal late in the 3rd period

Senior Dominik Feiler earned his seventh win of the season in his second consecutive start in net for St. Anthony’s.

Senior Alexander Clark made his eighth start of the season for the T-Birds in the tightly contested loss.

The T-Birds struck first at 13:43 of the 1st period. Keil beat the first defender and fired a shot through the second defender that trickled in.

Senior Andrew Snyder redirected one home on the power play to make it 2-0 at 9:12 in the opening stanza.

O’Doherty scored at 6:44 in the first frame to cut the T-Birds lead to 2-1. The Friars blue liner flew up ice and scored on a sharp angle shot.

O’Doherty lit the lamp on the power play at 4:34 of the 1st period, sniping top cheddar for his 10th of the season, to make it 2-2.

The Friars grabbed the lead at 4:11 when Azzariti completed a tic-tac-toe play for his 15th of the season. Senior Joseph Rocca picked up the primary assist and Sophomore Joe Miklitsch picked up the secondary assist after holding the puck in at the blue line.

Rocca added his 7th tally of the season at 11:19 in the 2nd period, redirecting a shot from the point into the back of the net, to extend the Friars’ lead to 4-2.

The T-Birds cut the deficit to 4-3 at 4:52 in the second stanza when Snyder netted his sixth of the season. Keil made a cross ice pass to Snyder, who tapped it home on the back door.

In the 3rd period, Keil tied the game at 6:01 with a power-play goal, his 14th tally of the season, assisted by Sophomore Joe Villani.

With just 2:20 remaining in regulation, Cutalo scored his 11th of the season to seal the victory for St. Anthony’s.
