Rutgers University bounced back from their early-season struggles to defeat Kutztown University 5-3 at ProSkate on Sunday, evening their season series at one game apiece. The Scarlet Knights improved to 5-6 overall while handing the Golden Bears their 16th loss in 22 games this season.

Despite the loss, Kutztown’s offensive stars continued their impressive campaigns. Aidan Esack, who entered the game leading his team with 16 goals and 24 points in just 13 games, recorded a hat trick performance with two goals and an assist. The dynamic forward’s three-point night extended his torrid pace as one of the MCHC’s most dangerous scorers. Josh Bower provided excellent support with two assists, building on his solid 10-point output in limited action this season.

Nick Leone added a goal for the Golden Bears, marking his third tally in just four games since joining the lineup. Matt Dann and Liam O’Neill each contributed assists as Kutztown’s offense generated plenty of chances throughout the contest. However, goaltender Zach Ciucci struggled between the pipes, allowing four goals on 27 shots for an .852 save percentage that proved costly in the high-scoring affair.

The victory represented a significant turnaround for Rutgers, who had dropped their previous meeting with Kutztown 4-1 back in November. With both teams competing in the competitive MCHC conference, the Scarlet Knights will look to build momentum from this home ice performance as they continue their push toward .500 hockey this season.
