Wings Win 2-0

Published

on

The Garden City Wings defeated the Friends Academy/North Shore Quakers a tightly contested 2-0 score. It was a very low scoring affair with both goaltenders playing outstanding hockey.

P.J. Tursi recorded the shutout victory for the Wings, stopping all 36 shots he faced on Sunday night. Tursi’s performance allowed the Wings to stay in the game and eventually find the late game-winner. Devin Lane made 18 saves on the 19 shots he faced in goal for the Friends Academy.

There was not much action to speak of in this game, as there were no goals until the final minutes of the third period. There was only one penalty taken during play, it came early in the third period against the Wings. The Quakers did not score on the power play attempt.

Jeremi Dziedzic was able to break the ice with only 2:12 remaining in the game. He did it himself by skating out of the corner and making a powerful move around the goaltender before sliding the puck into the back of the net.

T.J. Salvato added one for good measure into an empty net from his defensive end. It was an impressive shot that rolled down the ice into the goal, securing the 2-0 win for Garden City.
