Top Ten SCHSHL Defenseman – Week 8
Each week LISN uses advanced analytics to break down the top ten defenseman in the SCHSHL Varsity Division. Our model factors in everyday statistics such as Goals, Assists and Points to establish a baseline for league play. It then takes into account stats such as Power Play Goals, Shorthanded Goals and Game Winning Goals in order to analyze how a player produces as well as what situations they produce in. We also use our analytics program to track how players perform in wins/losses, when they score in a game as well as a multitude of other factors.

West Islip
Henshaw leads all SCHSHL Varsity Defensemen and is playing at a point per game pace for West Islip. The Lions defenseman has lit the lamp twice and garnered six assists to date. Henshaw has registered a point in seven straight games. He is also an elite defender who is capable of acting as a one man zone exit machine for the Lions.
2nd David Wetzel
Smithtown Hauppauge
The Bulls Blue liner is averaging a point per game with one goal and five assists this season. Wetzel’s physical style of play makes life difficult for his opponents. The Bulls are 0-2 when the Bulls defenseman doesn’t draw into the lineup.
3rd Bryan Slattery
East Islip
The top flight defender plays big minutes in all three zones for East Islip. He has two goals and three assists on the season, but Slattery’s ability to make quick reads in his own zone has made life easy for the EI forward core.

Ruthkowski has been solid in his own end for the Tigers this season. The Tigers defenseman excels at clearing the front of the net. He has scored two key goals down the stretch for his squad this season.
9th Patrick Scali

The Patriots blue liner has used his speed to force turnovers in transition all season long. Scali has notched three assists on the year for Ward Melville. The Patriots defenseman has played big minutes in his own zone for a Ward Melville team on the playoff bubble.

Sachem
The Sachem defenseman has played a solid all-around game this year. He may have just three assists this year, but Mascaro’s play in his own zone speaks for itself.
