Tigers Get Back In The Win Column
In their second meeting of the 2023-2024 SCHSHL Varsity season, the Northport Huntington Tigers defeated the Longwood Lions by a final score of 8-3. Joseph Boeckmann scored the eventual game winning goal on the power play with 11:03 remaining in the second stanza. Connor King picked up his second win in five starts for Northport Huntington this season. Christopher Primiani started his sixth game of the season for Longwood. The Tigers moved to 5-6 on the season. The Lions dropped to 0-11 on the campaign.
Joseph Boeckmann opened the scoring with 13:43 gone by in the first frame. The Tigers forward buried a rebound off of his first shot. Eric Craft picked up an assist on the play. Brandon Scheurmann went end-to-end to score tie the game at one apiece. Blake Brown scored a shorthanded breakaway goal off of a long saucer pass by J.T. Caruso. The Tigers led by one goal after fifteen minutes.
Just 22 seconds into the second period, Liam Truicko shook free of the Longwood defense before scoring on a shot from the slot. Sean Tittel picked up the assist on the play. With 11:03 remaining in the period, Boeckmann scored the eventual GWG off a rebound on the power play. Tittel picked up the primary assist and Caruso picked up the secondary assist. It was the first PPG of Boeckmann’s career. With 7:46 remaining, Brandon Scheurmann put Longwood back on the board. Scheurmann scored after collecting a loose puck, drove to the net and beat the Northport netminder with the fake shot before putting it home. The Longwood Lions trailed by two goals after two periods.
With 12:09 remaining in the final frame, Carter LaCorte scored his first career SCHSHL Varsity goal with Erik Craft and Maksim Sposato picking up the primary and secondary assists respectively. After an attempt at the Michigan went awry, Brandon Scheurmann completed the hat trick for Longwood. Just under a minute later, Maksim Sposato went on to score his first SCHSHL Varsity goal. Sean Tittel and Blake Brown scored the seventh and eighth goals of the game for the Northport Huntington Tigers.

The Longwood Lions will square off with the Kings Park Commack Knights on Monday, December 18th at 9:40 PM. The Lions lost their first meeting by a final score of 11-0, but have shown that they are more than the sum of their record so far this season. This team deserves a win, but it won’t be given freely. It’s up to the Lions to take it.
