T-Birds Are Go!

Ricky Guterwill netted his first career SCHSHL Varsity Hat-Trick in a four point performance as the Connetquot Sayville BBP T-Birds (7-9) defeated the Longwood Lions (0-15-0-1) by a final score of 11-2. The former PatMed Raider, Alex DeLeon, had two tucks in his first career multi-goal game at the varsity level for the T-Birds. Joey Villani potted his first career varsity goal after lighting up the freshman division with thirty-four times last year for Connetquot Sayville BBP. Jack Beaudry potted his first career SCHSHL goal for the Longwood Lions. Shane Kirby backstopped the T-Birds to his third win of the season. Anthony Frega made his seventh start of the season for the Longwood Lions.

Alex Barylski, Ryan DeLucie, Logan Booth, Alex Clark and Matt Campagnola did not draw in for the Connetquot Sayville BBP T-Birds on Sunday night. Eathan Brdey served the first game of a two-game suspension for the T-Birds. Griffin Braun, Nick Frey, Dominic LaMacchia, Brandon Scheuermann, Christopher Primiani Benny Rodriguez, Jason Ruland, Aydan Azmoun and Billy Keegan were unable to draw in for the Longwood Lions.

Nick Gigante made a great individual effort to secure possession off the draw before coming in and sniping top shelf to give the Longwood Lions a 1-0 lead just eight seconds into the game. Alex DeLeon redirected one home on a tic-tac-toe play to tie the game at 1-1 with 12:19 remaining. Nine seconds later Ricky Guterwill scored the go-ahead goal on a shot from the slot to make it a 2-1 game. The T-Birds captain, Ryan Fleischauer, scored the eventual game winning goal with 9:34 remaining in the first frame. The goal was credited to the wrong player on the official scoresheet which the Long Island Sports Network does not have any influence over.

Ricky Guterwill scored to make it a three goal game with 14:10 remaining in the second stanza. Fleischauer scored his second of the game to extend the T-Birds lead to 4-0 with 12:00 remaining in the second frame. Guterwill completed the hat-trick with 10:33 remaining in the 2nd period. Andrew Jozwicki and Brady Hall potted their second goals of the season for the T-Birds. The defenseman, Jack Mercado, let it rip from the blue line to score his third of the year for Connetquot Sayville BBP. Zack Martin picked up assists on the back-to-back goals scored by Hall and Mercado. DeLeon potted his second of the game in the period. Joey Villani scored the eleventh consecutive goal for the T-Birds with 1:19 remaining in the 2nd period.

Jack Beuadry scored the lone goal of the 3rd period with 13:22 remaining in regulation. Nick Gigante forced a defensive zone turnover, made a pass that was redirected by the skate of Cole Bianco to Beaudry who sniped bar down to give Longwood their second goal of the game.

The Longwood Lions will square off against the ST. Anthony’s Friars at the Rinx on Wednesday January 17th at 9:20 PM. In their first meeting of the campaign, the Friars defeated the Lions 12-0.

The Connetquot Sayville BBP T-Birds will take on the Smithtown Hauppauge Bulls at the Rinx on Wednesday January 24th at 9:20 PM. In their first meeting of the campaign, Matt Campagnola scored the golden goal as the T-Birds defeated the Bulls 2-1.
