HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) — The St. Anthony’s Friars (2-0) were in postseason form on Monday night, defeating the Kings Park-Commack Knights (1-1) 5-2. KPC defeated St. Anthony’s 4-2 on opening night last season, but not all wins are created equal, and it was the Friars who got the last laugh last year in the county semifinals. The Knights have now lost three straight games to the Friars.

St. Anthony’s goaltender Dom Fieler allowed 2 goals in his first career varsity win. KPC netminder Jacob Dufresne was exceptional in his debut, allowing just two goals against at even strength.

St. Anthony’s was assessed four minor penalties to Kings Park-Commack’s three in a scoreless opening period before the Friars scored three consecutive power play goals in the second stanza.

51 seconds into the 2nd period, Junior Tommy Azzariti scored his first of the season to put St. Anthony’s up 1-0. Azzariti beat Dufresne on a shot that deflected off a KPC defender after a face off win by Junior Zack Sirel.

Senior James Schendorf doubled the Friars lead with 6:36 left in the second frame. Schendorf beat Dufresne short side after the Friars forced the KPC netminder to slide side-to-side.

St. Anthony’s jumped out to a 3-0 lead courtesy of Senior James Aspromonti, who found the back of the net with 2:41 left in the second stanza. Aspromonti took a shot that deflected past Dusfresne off a KPC defender.

Just under a minute later, Senior Ronny Kemly put the Knights on the board to make it a two goal game. Felder denied the Knights captain, Senior Jesse Lemza, on a wrap around attempt but the puck was kicked out into the slot for Kemly who sniped top cheddar.

Witt 32 seconds to go in the 2nd period, Junior Zack Sirel scored to put the Knights back up by three. Sirel dangled past two defenders in the right wing corner, drifted towards center, and sniped glove side high to beat a sliding Dufresne.

Senior Anthony Scorcia scored with 12:59 left in the 3rd period to put St. Anthony’s up 5-1. Scorcia sniped stick side high off a feed from Schendorf, who won a key puck battle beneath the Knights goal line after an unsuccessful Friars two on one.

Senior Jack Salva scored with 11:43 remaining to make it a three score game. Lemza won the draw and slid the puck to Salva who scored off a backhanded shot from right in front.

After the Knights went on a power play midway through the 3rd period, Sirel forced a turnover to create a breakaway opportunity that was stopped by DuFresne.
