St. Anthony’s Revenge Tour Rolls On
HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) —St. Anthony’s Friars (3-0) revenge tour continued on Wednesday night with a 3-2 victory over Sachem (2-1). Junior Zack Sirel scored on an absolutely filthy toe drag release shot to open the scoring. Senior Nick Tempone backstopped the Friars to victory in his first career varsity start. Senior Joe Rocca scored his first of the season and picked up the primary assist on the game winning goal scored by Senior Brody O’Doherty.
Tempone became the third St. Anthony’s goaltender to pick up the win in their varsity debut this season. Senior Dom Feiler was between the pipes for St. Anthony’s 5-2 win over KPC, while Junior Jordan Valcich got the nod in net in a 9-4 victory over EI.
Junior Chase Saunders scored his third goal of the season on the power play for Sachem. Senior Anthony Pergollizi netted his first career varsity goal. Senior Michael DiGirolamo made his second start of the season.
Sirel scored a highlight reel goal to put St. Anthony’s up 1-0 with 7:43 left in the opening frame. Sirel sniped glove side high on a toe drag release shot that beat both Junior Cameron Kalberer and DiGirolamo. Kalberer, a forward covering for a defenseman, was down on one knee in an attempt to block the shot before the puck left Sirel’s stick.
Saunders tied the game with 5:19 remaining in the 1st period. Senior Joey Capece took a shot that rang off the end boards, and Saunders cashed in on the rebound to tie things up on the power play. The goal came just 27 seconds after O’Doherty was sent to the box for holding.
Rocca put Sachem back up by one with under two minutes remaining in the period. Rocca drove towards the net as Senior Cormac Terry, the Friars captain, tried to go coast-to-coast. Terry had the puck poked off his stick by Sachem Senior Tyler Alamia, before it was redirected past DiGirolamo by the boot of Rocca. The St. Anthony’s forward was presumably trying to settle the puck on his skate before moving it to his stick, but he was tied up by Sachem Junior Caiden Marcus, and the puck wound up in the back of the net.
Pergolizzi knotted things up at two apiece with 6:16 left in the 2nd period. Sophomore C.J. Pena forced a turnover right in front of the net before taking a shot that was deflected up and over DiGirolamo. Pergolizzi crashed the net and batted the puck into the net as it came back down towards the blue paint.
O’Doherty scored the eventual game winner with 5:23 remaining in the second stanza. Rocca won the draw back to the Friars blue liner who took a shot through traffic that beat DiGirolamo.
