Sachem Roars Past Northport-Huntington
HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) — Junior Kevin Lyoshir recorded a hat-trick in a seven point showing as Sachem (4-2) won a 10-6 barnburner over the Northport-Huntington Tigers (3-4). Lyoshir, who is committed to Quinnipiac University, has been a force to be reckoned with since debuting for Sachem
Junior J.T. Caruso lit the lamp four times for Northport-Huntington. Junior Cameron Kalberer scored twice and finished with six points for Sachem.
Senior Scott Loeb picked up his third win in as many starts for Sachem. Junior Boden Rudloff started in goal for Northport-Huntington.
Lyoshir scored a minute into the game to make it 1-0 Sachem. The Quinnipiac commit went forehand-backhand on the doorstep.
Caruso fired back to tie it with 11:36 left in the 1st period. The junior chipped it into the Sachem zone, walked in, and rifled it under the arm of the goaltender
Lyoshir put Sachem back up by one with 10:44 remaining in the 1st period. Lyoshir danced past one defender along the left wing wall, moved it to Kalberer, and walked into the slot for a one-time shot to snip stick side high.
Caruso tied Lyoshir 2-2 with 13:46 left in the 2nd period. Caruso came in two on one and used the defender as a screen to snipe glove side high.
Senior Dom Oppedisano scored a power play goal to make it 3-2 with 6:43 remaining in the second stanza. Lyoshir entered the zone, spinning away from pressure beneath the goal line to find Kalberer who slid it across to Oppedisano to complete the tic-tac-toe play
Senior Joey Capece scored a minute later to make it 4-2 Sachem. Capece scored from the back door, sniping through a defender off a beautiful feed from Junior Joe Wandling.
Caruso sniped glove-side high to complete the hat-trick with 3:01 left in the second frame to make it a one score game.
44 seconds later Junior Chase Saunders scored his first of the night for Sachem. Junior James Drago split the defense with a toe-drag as he cut left-to-right before moving to the weak side for a back door tap in by Saunders.
Lyoshir sniped top shelf to complete the hat-trick 18 seconds later as Sachem doubled up Northport-Huntington 6-3.
Junior Patrick Schmidt buried a rebound to score his first of the season for the Tigers with eight seconds left in the 2nd period.
Tyler Loret scored his first career varsity goal, and the eventual game winner, with 12:41 remaining in the 3rd period. Loret went top shelf off a backhand shot to beat the goaltender.
Saunders scored his fifth of the season with 11:23 left in the third frame to make it 8-4. Saunders sniped glove side high on a two on one with Drago picking up the assist.
Kalberer tucked one past the outstretched pad of Rudloff with 9:37 remaining that was assisted by Lyoshir.
Less than two minutes later, Kalberer scored on a back door tap that was assisted by Lyoshir.
Senior James Corr scored his second of the season with 2:38 remaining in the final frame. 25 seconds later Caruso scored an absolute beauty for his fourth of the game and twelfth of the season to make it a 10-6 game.
