Pollard And The Lions Roar Into Win Column

HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) — Senior Ciaran Pollard completed the hat-trick in the 3rd period to lift the West Islip Lions (1-4) to their first win of the  season over the Connetquot-Sayville T-Birds (1-4). The Lions Captain finished with four points in the 4-3 overtime win. 

Sophomore Tyler Sapoff picked up his first win of the season. Senior Spencer Jordan scored his first career varsity goal for WI. 

Junior Logan Booth Alum scored one in a three-point performance for the T-Birds. Junior Paul Wagner scored his first of the season. 

Junior Alex Barlyski scored his first of the campaign. Senior Richie Westhoff started his third career varsity game.

Booth Alum opened the scoring with 9:41 remaining in the 1st period. Senior Andrew Snyder pickpocketed the Lions defenseman and dished it to Booth Alum, who tucked it home after evading a poke check by Sapoff

Pollard scored an unassisted goal to tie the game with 7:57 left in the opening frame. The WI Senior went end-to-end, split the defense, and went forehand-backhand. 

Pollard scored his second of the night with 5:34 to go in the first stanza. The Captain raced up ice, blew by the defender, and went backhand-forehand for a bar-down beauty.  

Jordan scored 41 seconds into the 2nd period to make it 3-1 West Islip. Senior Nick Perpall slid it to the slot for Jordan who rifled it past Westhoff on a shot from beneath the hash marks. 

Wagner scored a shorthanded goal to make it a one score game with 7:53 remaining in the second stanza. The T-Birds iced the puck before the Lions turned it over in their own end, and Booth Alum found Wagner for a shot from the slot. 

Barlyski tied the game with 5:37 remaining in the second frame. Senior Chris Esposito dished it to Booth Alum who walked in and moved it to the back door for a tap in by Barlyski

Pollard called game with 2:04 left in the 3rd period. The Lions Captain cut through two defenders before going forehand-backhand to score five-hole. 

The T-Birds went empty net, but were unable to force overtime.
