Ward Melville Wins Round Two Against Longwood



Jake Mangano scored the game winning goal with 7:50 remaining in the period. Robert Huhne started in net for the Ward Melville Patriots. Anthony Frega started in goal for the Longwood Lions. The Patriots defeated the Lions by a final score of 6-1. The Ward Melville Patriots moved to 3-7. The Longwood Lions dropped to 0-10.

Aidan Ayers opened the scoring with 13:34 remaining in the first period. The Patriots continued to press, but Frega made a series of strong saves to keep the game within reach. The Longwood Lions trailed 1-0 after the first fifteen minutes.

At the midway mark of the second stanza, Jake Mangano scored the eventual game winning goal on the power play. Patriots defenseman Daniel Breslin scored his first career SCHSHL varsity goal with 5:13 remaining in the second period. Less than thirty seconds later, Mangano scored his second of the period. Mangano completed the hat trick with 23 seconds remaining in the second period. The Patriots led 5-0 after two periods of play.

Aidan Ayers scored his second goal with 4:05 left in the final frame. With under three minutes remaining, Cole Del Bianco lit the lamp for Longwood. The goal by Del Bianco broke a scoring drought for the Lions which lasted 182 minutes and 34 seconds.
