Ward Melville Finds Their Stride In Big Win.

Mathew Dann scored the Game Winning Goal on the Power Play with 13:12 remaining in the third period. It was the Patriots first win since opening night against Longwood. Ward Melville has now moved to 2-6 on the season, while West Islip fell to 3-5.

Jake Mangano scored a beautiful one-timer goal off of a beautiful feed from McCormick with 5:33 remaining in the first frame. Mangano missed the Patriots Sunday Night game against Sachem after picking up a game misconduct against Northport Huntington. The Patriots led by one after one period of play. Neither team scored in the second stanza.

John McCormick scored just forty seconds into the third period to put the Patriots up 2-0. Ward Melville would go up 3-0 after an unassisted power play goal by Dann. Less than two minutes later, Ciaran Pollard put West Islip on the board with a Power Play Goal.

Ward Melville defenseman, Michael Eilenberger, fired right back with an unassisted short handed goal to put the Patriots up 4-1. Luke Richard scored his first career SCHSHL Varsity Goal to make it 5-1 in favor of Ward Melville. Pollard scored his second of the night with 6:20 remaining in the final frame. Trailing 5-2, West Islip pulled their goaltender. McCormick made it 6-2 on an unassisted short handed empty net goal with just one second remaining.

Robert Huhne started his third game of the season for Ward Melville. The Patriots netminder picked up his second win, while allowing just two goals in the game. Tyler Sapoff got the nod in net for West Islip. The Lions goaltender made a string of spectacular saves, but picked up his second loss of the year in his fourth start this season.
