Marines Win Season Opener
Season Opener Lives Up To The Hype.
Quinn Judge scored the Game Winning Goal with 6:50 remaining in the first period. Mathew Marino got the nod in net for the Long Beach Marines. In his first start of the season, the Marines Netminder made twenty-one saves on twenty-three shots against. Jack Sarosy made his Varsity Debut in goal for the Bellmore Merrick Bulldogs. He was pulled after the Marines scored two goals in a span of five seconds. Joseph Braglia made his varsity debut in relief. He turned aside thirteen of fifteen shots by the Marines.
The Marines Captain, Daniel McArdle, opened the scoring with 3:10 gone by in the first frame of play.Richard Behr Jr made it 2-0 on a shot from the slot. Quinn Judge put Long Beach up by three with 6:55 remaining in the first period. The goal came after Liam Young and Luke Pichichero were credited with the primary and secondary assists respectively.
After three unanswered goals by Long Beach, the Bulldogs fired back. Jaden Grillo forced a turnover behind the Long Beach net. He threaded the needle on a pass to a cutting Tyler Marcus. He fired a beautiful shot past Marino to cut the Long Beach lead to two. Vincent Pagliano made it a one goal game on a power play goal with fifty-seven seconds left in the first period. Jourdan Luskoff was credited with the assist.
A Donnybrook early on in the second stanza left both benches undermanned after ten players were ejected. That didn’t stop the Bulldogs or the Marines from playing fast and physical until the final buzzer. Joseph Braglia and Mathew Marino did not give up a goal for the remainder of the game. An empty net goal by Patrick Henry sealed the deal for Long Beach.
