Manhasset Great Neck Dethrones The Kings



Daniel Perlman scored the eventual game winning goal for Manhasset Great Neck. William Sylvia picked up his third win in as many starts for Manhasset Great Neck. The thirteen year old netminder has posted a 1.33 GA A with a.918 save percentage on the season. Joseph Columbel was stellar in his sixth start of the season for the Wantagh Seaford Plain Edge Kings. Manhasset Great Neck defeated the WSP Kings by a final score of 4-1. Manhasset Great Neck moved to 3-2 on the campaign. The Wantagh Seaford Plain Edge Kings dropped to 1-5 on the year.

Jake Sylvia opened the scoring on a shot from the slot with 3:43 gone by in the first frame. Connor Stoneking was accredited with the lone assist on the play. Just over a minute later, Niko Rodriguez intercepted an errant pass, fired a shot on goal and cashed in on the rebound to tied the game at one apiece. Manhasset Great Neck had outshot the WSP Kings 8-5 at the end of the 1st period.

A penalty by Rodriguez with 2:15 gone by in the second stanza put Manhasset Great Neck on the power play. Less than a minute later, Alex Mallios fired a shot that was deflected past the Kings netminder by Daniel Perlman. Manhasset Great Neck outshot WSP 9-3 in the 2nd period, but Joseph Columbel kept the game within reach for the Kings. After thirty minutes of regulation, Manhasset Great Neck led 2-1.

At the start of the third frame, Columbel continued to take center stage for the Wantagh Seaford Plain Edge. The Kings netminder kept the game scoreless for a span of twenty one minutes and thirty-two seconds. The ever reliable William Sylvia was rock solid in goal for Manhasset Great Neck. Sylvia made fourteen stops on fifteen shots against. Ethan Tamari made it a two goal game after burying a rebound off a shot from Emanuel Giouroukas with 9:45 gone by in the third frame. With 12:55 gone by in the period, Tamari fired a beautiful backhanded shot from the slot to give Manhasset Great Neck a commanding 4-1 lead. The two goals by Tamari put a dampener on a strong period by WSP. The Kings were outshot 10-7 in the final frame, but generated several key scoring chances. Manhasset Great Neck outshot WSP 27-15 on the night.
