HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (LISN) — Junior Maksim Sposato scored the game-winning goal to lift the Northport/Huntington Tigers (5-7) to a 4-3 victory over the Connetquot/Sayville T-Birds (2-10).
Only nine skaters dressed for Northport/Huntington.
Junior J.T. Caruso scored twice in a three-point performance.
Junior Boden Rudloff backstopped the Tigers to his third win in eight starts this season.
Senior Richie Westhoff Jr. made his sixth start of the season for the Tigers.
Senior Trevor Rodecker netted his second goal of the season to give the T-Birds a 1-0 lead with 12:30 remaining in the first period. Rodecker entered the zone before firing a toe-drag release shot through the legs of a defender, beating Rudloff five-hole.
Caruso potted a power-play goal, his fourth of the campaign, to tie the game with 7:20 left in the second period. The junior dangled past one defender and beat Westhoff low blocker.
Senior Nick Masi scored his fourth of the season at the 5:03 mark of the second stanza to make it 2-1 T-Birds. Masi rolled off the left-wing wall, drifted into the slot, and sniped stick side high.
Caruso scored his second goal of the game and 15th of the season with 2:37 remaining in the second frame to tie it at 2-2. The Tigers star went end-to-end, toe-dragged past a defender, and rifled it home.
Senior Logan Keil potted his seventh goal of the season with 8:45 remaining in the third period to put the T-Birds back up by one. Keil went end-to-end, slipped past a defender, and went backhand-forehand.
Twenty-five seconds later, Senior Joe Boeckmann netted his third goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3. Caruso won a race to the puck, threw on the brakes, and found Boeckmann for a one-time wrist shot to beat a sliding Westhoff.
Sposato scored the game-winning goal at the 6:01 mark of the third period to secure the 4-3 victory. The junior danced into the slot and scored on a backhand shot.
