Knights Win Nail-Biter

John Coyle scored the game winning goal as the Kings Park Commack Knights defeated the Connetquot Sayville BBP T-Birds 3-0. Jayson Krauthammer recorded his second shutout of the season for the Knights. Shane Kirby allowed just two goals against in his ninth start of the year. Jack Franke showcased impressive speed and skill in his varsity debut for the Knights.

With 9:03 remaining in the first frame, John Coyle fired a beauty of a slap shot past Kirby to open the scoring for the Knights. KPC proceeded to go on the power play after Eathan Brdey was assessed a two minute minor for roughing, but a tripping call that went against Knights defenseman Christian McGraine cut the man advantage short. The T-Birds couldn’t capitalize on the following power play. With under thirty seconds remaining in the frame, T-Birds forward Eathan Brdey and Knights Captain Stefan Hludzinski were sent to the box after being assessed offsetting minor penalties for roughing.

The T-Birds came out firing on all cylinders in the second period, but Jayson Krauthammer stonewalled them at every turn. With 6:27 remaining in the second stanza, Stefan Hludzinski buried a rebound to give the Knights a two score lead. Jesse Lemza and Tyler Granelli were credited with the primary and secondary assists respectively.

After Maximus Hludzinski was assessed a two minute minor for roughing, the Knights found themselves on the penalty kill. Despite generating several quality scoring chances, the T-Birds failed to capitalize on the power play. A cross-checking penalty that went against Ryan Fleischauer, put the Knights on the power play with 5:57 remaining. Offsetting roughing minors on the scrum that occurred after the cross-checking penalty were assessed to KPC’s Michael DeSaro and Connetquout Sayville’s Shane Kirby. The minor assessed to the T-Birds netminder was served by Andrew Jozwicki. The power play was cut short by an interference call that went against Tyler Granelli. After the T-Birds failed to capitalize on the own power play, Tyler Granelli sealed the deal with an empty net goal that came with :47 seconds left in regulation. 

The Kings Park Commack Knights top line of Tyler Granelli, Stefen Hludzinski and Jesse Lemza continue to generate high danger scoring chances. Although his impact isn’t always reflected on the scoresheet, KPC blue liner Ryan Furst has tilted the ice against opponents in due to his defensive prowess and his ability to make quick reads in any situation. John Coyle, Maximus Hludzinski and Brian Prange continue to showcase their speed in transition without giving up odd man rushes against i. Fourteen-year-old Jack Franke was among the fastest players on the ice in his Varsity debut.

Logan Booth Alum and Ryan Fleischauer continue to impress on the T-Birds top line. The tenacious two-way play of both versatile forwards has made a huge impact in the clubs last five game. Joey Villani continues to play a rock solid defensive game with a physical edge, while flashing the potential to become the T-Birds defenseman since Colin Biesel laced ‘em up. The T-Birds line of Alexander DeLeon, Ricky Guterwill and Andrew Jozwicki has made a huge impact in recent weeks for the club. The trio plays with impressive pace and tenacity in transition has led to the T-Birds generating more scoring chances while allowing fewer shots on goal.
