Knights Put On A Show In Season Opener

Jack Salva scored the first goal of the 2024-2025 season as the Kings Park-Commack Knights (1-0) won 6-3 over the Northport-Huntington Tigers (0-1). Jayson Krauthamer got the win in his first start of the season for KPC. Krauthamer allowed 3 goals against, including 1 on the power play. Boden Rudloff allowed 5 goals against for Northport-Huntington in the season opener, but KPC scored 2 of them on the power play and added another on a shorthanded breakaway.
Salva scored an absolute beauty to give the Knights a 1-0 lead with 13:01 remaining in the 1st period. The Kings Park-Commack Senior entered the Northport-Huntington zone along the right wing wall, drew Tigers defenseman Ryan Collins to the outside, and made a drop pass to Knights center John Coyle. Salva proceeded to slip past the Tigers defense before receiving a beautiful feed from Coyle, and went short side high to beat Rudloff. The Northport-Huntington goaltender made a valiant effort to recover, but was unable to make the stop after being caught mid-slide by Salva.
Ronny Kemly scored the first power play goal of the season with 4:31 to go in the first stanza to make it 2-0 Knights. The KPC Senior entered the zone, broke the defenders ankles, and sniped top shelf.
Justin Cahn scored his first career varsity goal to make it a 2-1 game with 11:49 remaining in the second frame. The Northport-Huntington sophomore took advantage of traffic in front of the net to score on an unassisted goal on a shot from right between the hashmarks.
Kemly scored the first shorthanded goal of the season to put Kings Park-Commack up 3-1 with 1:22 to go in the second stanza. Kemly came in on a breakaway, cutting from the right wing wall towards center, and went backhand-forehand to score.
Cahn scored a buzzer beater to make it 3-2 at the end of the 2nd period. J.T. Caruso fired a shot from the left wing wall that was turned aside by Krauthamer, but the rebound popped out in the slot where Cahn made him pay with the stick side shot.
Ten seconds into the 3rd period, Ryan Collins scored an unassisted goal to tie the game 3-3. The Junior defenseman picked off a cross ice feed, raced up ice and blew by Knights defender Aaron Haberman who blew a tire. Collins cut in from the right wing side and sniped five-hole for his first of the season.
Salva scored the game winning goal on the power play with 11:17 left in the 3rd period. A pass by KPC defenseman Ryan Furst was deflected by Northport-Huntington rookie Owen Karpioch, and the puck landed on the stick of Salva who scored from the back door.
Francesco Delio scored in his varsity debut to extend the Knights lead back to two with 6:13 to go in the third frame. Delio entered the zone 1 on 3, won a battle along the boards, and waited for help before making a pass to the slot for Greg Galgano who was stoned by Rudloff. Delio regained possession and scored on an off angle shot.
Northport-Huntington called timeout with 2:09 remaining in the final stanza. Franco Justinic scored a shorthanded, empty net goal to seal the deal with 20 seconds left in regulation.
