Kings Park Commack Rolls On
Ryan Walsh scored the Game Winning Goal with just 1:38 gone by in the first frame. Walsh carried the puck up ice, crossed the West Islip blue line, and beat both defenders as he cut in from the right side wall. Down on one knee, Walsh slid across the slot as he fired a wrist shot glove side high to give his team a one goal lead. Braiden Buccino made his fifth start of the season for West Islip. The Northport Huntington netminder kept the game within reach, but the Tigers were unable to mount a comeback. Jayson Krauthammer got the nod in net for Kings Park Commack. The Knights netminder backstopped his team to their seventh win of the season. Krauthamer recorded his first career SCHSHL shutout and has gone 4-0-1 to start the campaign.
Buccino made a point blank save midway through the second period. The Knights collected the rebound. Jack Salva proceeded to 2-0 KPC on a one timer assisted by Ronald Kemly. Salva would score the lone goal of the second stanza. West Islip tried to fire back on a 2 on 1 odd man rush late in the second frame. Krauthammer was forced to slide cross crease to make the stop. The show stopping pad save by the Knights goaltender had the Kings Park Commack crowd cheering his name.
The Lions were down by two goals at the start of the third period. With 8:41 remaining in the frame, Walsh scored his second of the night. Kemly and Salva were credited with the primaey and secondary assists respectively. Franco Justinic sealed the deal for KPC with a short handed breakaway goal with 12:25 gone by in the frame. Connor Cohen was awarded the sole assist on the goal. The Knights went on to win by a final score of 4-0.
