Kalberer Bros Let Loose As Sachem Wins 8-2

Colin Kalberer dusted four defenders to score the second of five unanswered goals in the 3rd period as Sachem (12-3-1) cruised to an 8-2 victory over the Ward Melville Patriots (3-11-1-1). Cameron Kalberer scored the eventual game winner as well as the insurance goal. Sachem’s Michael DiGirolamo picked up his sixth win of the campaign. Bobby Huhne made his seventh start of the season for Ward Melville. 

Sachem was without their captain, Thomas Konkowski, who leads the league in goals with twenty-night on the season. The Ward Melville Patriots were without their leading scorer, Jake Mangano, who was suspended for two games following a 7-5 loss to the Northport Huntington Tigers on Monday Night. Ward Melville’s Luke Richard was out of the lineup on Wednesday night. 

Alp Octu redirected a shot by Joe Capece past Huhne with 13:42 remaining in the first frame to put Sachem up 1-0. Anthony Cerulli evened the score with 9:53 remaining. Cerulli cut to the net off a feed from Matt Dann and scored off a fake deke move, otherwise known as the Kucherov. The Long Island Sports Network has been unable to confirm whether or not the fake deke is Cerulli’s go-to move in NHL 24.

Nick McGuire scored the go ahead goal with 6:24 remaining in the first frame. The Sachem power forward forced an errant pass by the Patriots which led to a turnover. John Golden entered the Ward Melville zone 2 on 1, fired a shut that was turned aside by the left pad of Huhne, and McGuire buried the rebound.

Cameron Kalberer sniped one past Huhne on a shot from the slot to extend the lead to two with 4:56 remaining inn the 2nd period. Anthony Cerulli scored with 1:01 remaining in the frame to make it a one score game. Cerulli split the defense, fired a shot that was turned aside by DiGirloamo, and batted the puck out of mid-air on a beautiful deflection.

Cameron Kalberer put Sachem back up by two on a shot from the slot with 13:56 remaining in regulation. Colin Kalberer picked up an assist on each of Cameron Kalberer’s two goals. Sachem jumped out to a three score lead off a goal by Colin Kalberer. The Sachem star came in 1 on 4, dusted four defenders, and sniped top shelf with 10:08 remaining in the period. Ward Melville called timeout as they pulled Huhne in favor of an extra attacker with over five minutes remaining in regulation. Chris O’Hea netted an empty netter with 4:08 remaining in the 3rd period to put Sachem up 6-2. Greg Monthie and Alp Octu scored on back-to-back breakaways after the Patriots put their Netminder back in the game.

Upcoming Schedule 

The Ward Melville Patriots will take on the West Islip Lions on Wednesday January 17th with puck drop set for 9:00 PM. The Patriots won 6-2 in their first meeting with the Lions. Ward Melville trails West Islip by one point in the standings as the playoff race heats up.

Sachem is set to square off with the Kings Park Commack Knights at the Rinx on Sunday January 21st with puck drop set for 7:50 PM. In their first meeting of the season KPC defeated Sachem 6-2
