The Half Hollow Hills Hornets (8-4-0-1) defeated the Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs (11-4-0-0) by a score of 3-1 at Long Beach Ice Arena on Sunday Night.

Maddox Franks picked up his third win of the season, making 28 saves on 29 shots for the Hornets. Joseph Braglia made 20 saves for the Bulldogs.

The game started with Jett Lucas scoring the first goal. Peter Menexas forced a turnover at the point before Lucas took a tough-angle shot and slipped it past the goaltender Braglia. The goal came just 5:34 into the first period.

There was no more scoring until the final three minutes of the second period. Each team was able to execute on the power play, with the Hornets striking first to make it 2-0. Joseph Castellano jammed the puck home at the top of the crease after a point shot from Menexas. It looked like Jonathan Wheeler was able to get a piece of the puck as well on its way to the net.

Bellmore-Merrick’s power play strike came on a deflection from a point shot. Lucas Lucchi tipped Noah Zinman’s wrister into the back of the net, giving the Bulldogs some life at the end of the middle period, with just 18 seconds to go.

With only 6:26 remaining in the game, Elijah Bartow took a shot through traffic that got redirected by Joseph Castellano. Joseph Fazio jammed it past Braglia to extend Half Hollow Hills’ lead to 3-1.

That 3-1 score would hold as the Hornets got the win. Half Hollow Hills sits in third place with 17 points, right behind Bellmore-Merrick who is in second with 22 points.
