Hills Beats Bethpage In Rematch

Jonathan Wheeler scored the eventual game winning goal as the Hornets defeated the Eagles 4-1 in their second meeting of the season. The Hornets moved to 4-3 after their second straight win of the season. The Eagles dropped to 6-3 after dropping consecutive contests for the first time this season. Luke Guttman made 28 saves on 29 shots in a winning performance the Hornets. Matteo Belisse started his eighth game of the season for the Eagles.

Joe Castellano opened the scoring with 13:24 gone by in the first period. The play began after the Half Hollow Hills Hornets won the draw forward, Castellano forced a turnover at the Eagles blue line, entered the zone on a breakaway, and went forehand-backhand to give the Hornets a 1-0 lead. The Hornets lead wouldn’t last for long.

With 1:31 gone by in the second stanza, Michael LoBosco redirected a shot from the blue line by Nicolas Morolla to tie the game at one apiece. Jonathan Wheeler beat Bellise on a wrist shot with 8:03 gone by to retake the lead for Half Hollow Hills. Just over a minute later, the Hornets made it a two score game. After Spencer Menkes entered Eagles territory, Joe Fazio got behind the Bethpage defense and redirected a beautiful feed from Menkes past Bellise.

The Eagles tried to answer back in the final frame, but Guttman made a series of show stopping saves to hold the lead. With 11:55 gone by in the final frame, Jonathan Wheeler buried a rebound to give the Hornets a 4-1 lead.
