Friends Academy / North Shore Outlasts Farmingdale

BETHPAGE, N.Y. (LISN) — The Friends Academy/North Shore Quakers (3-2, Conference II) edged the Farmingdale Dalers (1-7, Conference II) in a 4-3 victory.

Guanlin Sheng scored once in a three point performance. Blaise Saad scored once and added an assist. Remon Cao also lit the lamp for the Quakers.

Devin Lane made 23 saves on 26 shots to secure his first win of the season for the Quakers. Luke Watrous turned aside 21 of 25 shots in his fourth start for the Dalers.

Farmingdale struck first just under two minutes into the 1st period when Logan Marcis scored his first career varsity goal. Alex Goodenough set up the play with a backhand pass from beneath the goal line to Marcis for a tap-in at the back door, making it 1-0.

Blaise Saad tied the game for the Quakers with 4:49 left in the opening stanza. Saad used a tie-drag to evade a defender before rifling a shot past Watrous from close range.

Sheng put the Quakers ahead 2-1 with 11:14 remaining in the 2nd period, skating end-to-end and scoring on a wraparound.

Matthew Herbst tied it again for the Dalers at the 9:10 mark of the 2nd period. Lorenzo Vetere carried the puck in on a two-on-one and threaded a perfect pass to Herbst, who buried it.

Remon Cao regained the lead for Friends Academy/North Shore with 7:30 left in the 2nd period, netting his first goal of the season. Sheng carried the puck into the zone on a two-on-one and slid it to Cao, who lifted it over a sliding Watrous to make it 3-2.

John Vakaris scored the eventual game-winning goal, a power-play marker and his first career varsity goal, with 7:28 remaining in the 3rd period. Vakaris screened Watrous and redirected a shot from Andrew McCarten into the net, extending the lead to 4-2.

Cameron Black cut the deficit to 4-3 with 2:35 remaining, walking in from the blue line and sniping top shelf for his second goal of the season. However, it was too little too late as the Quakers held on for the win.
