Friars Win Finals Rematch
HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) — Junior Tommy Azzariti scored twice as the St. Anthony’s Friars (8-0) won 4-3 to hand the Smithtown-Hauppauge Bulls (6-1) their first loss of the season.
Junior Jordan Valcich gave up three goals against in his third win of the season through as many starts. Senior Cormac Terry, the Friars captain, assisted on the opening goal in a dominant two-way performance against the Bulls
Azzariti scored his first of the night with 2:35 left in the 1st period to make put St. Anthony’s up 1-0. Terry, the Friars captain, dangled past Bulls Senior Gavin Bareham and fired a shot that Azzariti redirected past Halliday.
Bareham scored his sixth of the season to make it a 1-1 game with 44 seconds remaining in the opening frame. Sophomore Aidan Landrigan dished it to a streaking Bareham who went forehand-backhand to score a breakaway goal.
Senior Joe Rocca scored his second of the season with 9:20 to go in the 2nd period to make it 2-1 Friars. Senior Brody O’Doherty sent it to the slot for Rocca who fired a spinning shot to bury it in the bottom left corner of the goal.
27 seconds later Aspromonti scored his fifth of the season to make it a two score game. The St. Anthony’s sniper went top-shelf on a one-timer assisted by Senior James Schendorf.
Azzariti scored the Friars third goal in a span of a minute and 40 seconds to make it 4-1. The junior winger went bar down on a shot from the slot for his ninth of the season.
Aiden Landrigan scored his third of the season, on the power play to cut the Friars lead to two with 14:06 left in the 3rd period. The Smithtown-Hauppauge sophomore redirected a shot by Cantalupo past Valcich.
Cantalupo scored his tenth of the season, his first on the power play, with 10:45 remaining in the third frame. Junior Connor Dubeau found threaded the needle to Cantalupo who went top shelf on a shot from between the hash marks.
