Friars Extend Win Streak To Five
Zack Sirel scored the eventual game winner in the first period as the St. Anthony’s Friars (12-5-1) won 9-1 over the Ward Melville Patriots (4-12-1-1) to sweep the season series. Shane Ryan picked up his fifth win through six starts this season. Bobby Huhne made his eighth start of the season for the Patriots.
Zack Sirel opened the scoring to give the Friars a 1-0 lead with 13:41 left in the opening frame. Sirel potted his ninth goal of the year on the power play with 4:26 remaining in the 1st period.
Gerard Nealon scored with 14:34 remaining in the second stanza to extend the Friars lead to three. Nealon found the back of the net for his second of the night with 9:54 remaining in the 2nd period. James Aspromonti scored his third goal of the year to put the Friars up 5-0 with 3:25 remaining in the frame. James Schendorf lit the lamp for his eighth goal of the season with 1:43 left in the period. Jack McCormick scored his 12th goal of the season to put the Patriots on the board with 16 seconds remaining in the frame.
Brady Montelone put the biscuit in the basket for his ninth of the campaign to give the Friars a 7-1 with 7:15 left in the final frame. Jack Mancini scored his second of the season with 6:01 remaining in the 3rd period. Gerard Nealon completed the hat-trick for his twelfth goal of the season to give the Friars a 9-1 lead with 3:53 left in regulation.
