Eagles Clinch 1st Seed
Marko Lisica scored once in a three point performance as the Bethpage Eagles (12-3-0-1) won 5-1 over VSSL Storm (7-9). Matteo Bellise made 22 saves in the Eagles win. Antonio Brugellis started in net for the Storm, but was later relieved by Patrick Donaghy. The Eagles are set to be the 1st seed in the NYIHSHL Playoffs following Friday night’s win.
Justin Verdi potted his 3rd of the season with 12:36 remaining by in the 1st period to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Verdi sniped glove side high on a shot from the point. Nick Morolla lit the lamp for his 7th of the campaign with 10:53 left in the opening frame. Michael Sheahan made a drop pass to Morolla who fired it stick side high. Jake McAuliffe scored his sixth of the season to extend the lead to 3-0 with 7:42 remaining in the period. Marko Lisica fired a shot that led to a rebound opportunity for McAuliffe to cash in on. Lisica nearly made it 4-0 at the end of the first frame, but time expired before the puck crossed the goal line.
Patrick Donaghy was between the pipes for the Storm at the start of the second stanza. Patrick O’Doherty scored his tenth of the season to put the Storm on the board with 7:39 remaining in the 2nd period. O’Doherty entered the Eagles zone, cut to the slot and fired a backhanded shot top shelf. Stavros Likourentzos scored his 16th of the season with 1 second remaining in the frame to put the Eagles back up by 3. Marko Lisica entered the zone and made a cross ice pass to Likourentzos who went stick side high.
Marko Lisica scored his 13th of the season with 1:42 remaining in the 3rd period. Lisica charged up ice, showed off the mitts as he deked his way past the defender and beat the netminder short side.
