Deja Vu All Caruso Again!

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. — Junior J.T. Caruso scored the game-winning goal and added two assists to lift the Northport/Huntington Tigers (8-11-0) to a 4-3 upset victory over Kings Park/Commack Knights (13-6-0) on Monday night. It wasn’t the first time that Caruso has upset the Knights, and this one is sure to be just as memorable.

Sophomore Owen Karpoich tallied two goals and one assist.

Freshman Jose Walter recorded one goal and two assists in the win.

Junior Boden Rudloff earned his 4th victory in goal this season for Northport/Huntington.

Senior Jacob Dufresne made his 10th start of the season for Kings Park/ Commack.

Karpoich scored his 14th of the season at 6:25 of the 1st period to make it 1-0 Tigers. The sophomore sensation dangled past the defender before sniping top shelf.

Senior Brian Prange tied the game at 12:49 of the 2nd period with his 10th goal of the season. The senior winger redirected a shot from the point past Rudloff.

Junior Connor Cocco gave Kings Park/Commack a 2-1 lead at 11:18 of the 2nd period with his 9th goal of the season. Senior Greg Galgano entered the zone 2-on-1 and slid it across to Cocco, who beat the goaltender with a one-timer.

Junior Jackson Ciofrone potted his 6th of the season, a power-play goal, on a shot from the point at 4:12 of the 2nd period.

It was the Knights third unanswered goal in a span of under nine minutes in the second stanza, and they led by two at the end of the 2nd period, but the Tigers came roaring back in the final frame.

Walter cut the deficit to one at 12:14 of the 3rd period with his second goal of the season. The sophomore tucked it home after Dufresne made multiple point-blank saves.

Karpoich netted his second of the night the game at 6:52 of the 3rd period. Walter tried to split the defense, lost the handle, and recovered the puck in the left wing corner before making a backhand pass to the doorstep for Karpoich who roofed it.

Caruso secured the victory with a power-play goal at 2:14 of the 3rd period.

Upcoming Schedule

The Northport/Huntington Tigers (8-11-0) will face off against the West Islip Lions (4-14-1) on Wednesday, February 5, at 7:50 PM. The Tigers are aiming for a playoff spot and will look to secure a win, while the Lions need both a win and a loss by the Cougars to keep their playoff hopes alive. In their previous meetings, the Tigers won 7-5 in September and 4-1 in November.

The Kings Park/Commack Knights (13-6-0) will face off against the St. Anthony’s Friars (18-1-0) on Sunday, February 10, at 8:10 PM. In their previous matchups, the Friars won 5-2 in September and 4-3 in December. Not only do the Knights want to avoid a series sweep, and are looking to avoid entering the playoffs on a losing streak for a second consecutive season.
