Defending Champs’ Advance To Finals

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (LISN)Senior Gavin Bareham scored the game-winning goal as the defending champion Smithtown/Hauppauge Bulls defeated the Kings Park/Commack Knights 4-1 in the SCHSHL Semifinals, setting up a long anticipated Finals rematch against the St. Anthony’s Friars. 

Junior Connor Dubeau potted his first career varsity goal for the Bulls. Senior Brendan Landrigan, the Bulls captain, scored a highlight-reel-worthy goal.

Senior Aidan Halliday allowed just one goal against in a stellar start for the Bulls.

Senior Jayson Krauthamer was strong in goal for KPC.

Dubeau opened the scoring at 10:07 in the second stanza to make it 1-0 Bulls. The junior entered the zone, cut across the high slot, and fired a shot that grazed the bottom of Krauthamer’s glove on its way to the bottom right corner of the net. 

Bareham scored the eventual game-winning goal with 3:27 left in the 2nd period. Senior Ray Sherwood rimmed the puck out of the defensive zone and Sophomore Aidan Landrigan collected it at the red line before dusting off a defender at the blue line to create a 2 on 1. The sophomore slid it across for Bareham, who fired a shot that hit the side of Krauthamer’s mask and in. 

Brendan Landrigan, added a power play marker at 11:07 in the final frame. The Bulls captain drifted into the slot, collected the puck on his forehand, and moved it to his backhand before roofing it. 

Senior Jesse Lemza put the Knights on the board with 7:42 remaining in the 3rd period. Lemza went coast to coast before firing a shot from outside the right wing hash that slid through the five-hole of Halliday. 

The Bulls goaltender shut the door for the remainder of the game. The Knights pulled their goalie after going on the penalty kill in the final minutes of the game. 

Senior R.J. Pfister III buried an empty netter with 37 seconds left on the clock to secure the victory. Pfister intercepted a pass in his own zone, took one stride, and fired a shot from just inside his own blue line.
