Deacon Downs Garden City

HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) — Desmond Deacon netted a natural hat-trick and added an assist in his varsity debut to lift the Oceanside Sailors (1-0) to a 5-2 victory over the Garden City Wings (0-1). 

Vince Romeo scored once and added two assists as Dennis Lynch scored his first career varsity goal. 

Oliver Koch backstopped the Sailors to his first career varsity victory. Koch made 23 saves on 25 shots against. 

Dom Mack scored twice in his varsity debut for Garden City. 

Carter Pickens made 37 saves on 42 shots against for the Wings. 

Mack netted his first of the night to give Garden City a 1-0 lead with 1:08 gone by in the 1st period. Mack blew by two defenders as he went end-to-end and beat Koch short side. 

Deacon scored his first of the night 13:57 into the opening frame. 

Deacon scored his second of the game to make it 2-1 Oceanside with 9:32 gone by in the 2nd period. Romeo blew by the defense to create a two on none and slid it to Deacon for a tap in. 

19 seconds later Deacon buried a rebound to complete the natural hat-trick and extend the lead to two. 

Dennis Lynch went top shelf to score the Sailors fourth consecutive goal 11:46 into the second stanza. 

Mack scored his second of the game with 9:12 gone by in the 3rd period. Mack went forehand-backhand and scored as he was taken down by the outstretched pad of Koch. 

Romeo scored 10:32 into the final frame to make it 5-2 Oceanside. Romeo went top shelf on a shot from the slot.
