Bulldogs Win Blackout Game

The Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs lit the lamp nine times in a 9-2 win over the Massapequa Chiefs in the NYIHSHL Quarterfinals. The Bulldogs scored four unanswered to open the scoring in the second stanza, before the Chiefs found the back of the net in the dying seconds of the period. The game was briefly came to a halt due to a blackout at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center. The Chiefs scored a power play goal following the stoppage, but the Bulldogs scored four straight to close out the game. Eight different Bellmore-Merrick skaters found the back of the net in the Bulldogs decisive victory. Joey Braglia made 15 saves in the Bulldogs victory. Connor Coyle made 20 stops for the Chiefs. 

Jordan Luskoff scored a power play goal to put the Bulldogs up 1-0 with 13:34 remaining in the 2nd period. Nick Drogan fired a shot from the point that Luskoff redirected past Coyle. Nico Buglione extended the Bulldogs lead to two with 11:12 remaining in the 2nd period. Nick Drogan made a spinning pass to Buglione, who fired a quick shot from the net front that was stopped by Coyle before Buglione cashed in on the rebound. Just 40 seconds later Collin Roulston sniped glove side high to put the Bulldogs up 3-0. Anthony Max Vitale lit the lamp with 8:49 left in the period. The Bulldogs forward, who is nicknamed A-Max, rifled one top shelf on a shot from the left wing dot. Jack Insana put ‘Pequa on the board with 34 seconds left in the frame. Insana fired a shot from the slot through the defender that beat Braglia glove side high. 

Nico Buglione fired back for the Bulldogs with 11:34 left in the 3rd period. Nick Drogan fired a shot that careened off the glass, popped out beneath the left wing dot where Buglione buried it in the back of the net. A blackout brought the game to a standstill in the 3rd period. Jack Insana scored a power play goal to make it 5-2 with 10:14 remaining in the period. Noah Zinman scored a power play goal with 8:39 left in the regulation. Zinman went bar down from the blue line to spark another scoring streak for the Bulldogs. Sean Keene fired a one-time clapper past Coyle with 5:12 remaining in the period to put the Bulldogs up 7-2. Just 21 seconds later, Jack LaGalia tapped one home to extend the lead to six. Hunter Paul forced a turnover, curled towards the slot and fired a shot to score a shorthanded goal with 1:59 left in regulation to make it 9-2.
