Braves Push Past Marines With High-Powered Offense

LONG BEACH, NY- The Syosset Braves (11-1) defeated the Long Beach Marines (7-3-0-1) by a 7-3 score on Sunday night to move into a tie with the Bellmore-Merrick Bulldogs for first place in Varsity Conference I play.

The win marks eight in a row for the Braves. Nick Summa was the winning goaltender with 12 saves on 15 shots.

Joseph Feerick scored his first goal of the season 5:48 into the game to give the hometown Marines an early 1-0 lead. It was a right-place, right-time goal as Feerick buried a rebound from a corner shot.

Gino Tokarskiy was able to answer with 1:34 to go in the first. It was another rebound goal but this time for the Braves on a 3-on-2, which tied the game at one entering the first intermission.

Richard Behr Jr scored 19 seconds into the second period on the power play to give Long Beach a 2-1 lead. This lead would last for most of the middle period, until the final few.

Syosset struck three times in the final 3:10 of the second period. Robert Engel had the tying goal at 11:50 before Asher DePierro gave the Braves their first lead of the night with 1:19 to go.

Engel scored the eventual game-winning goal with 39 seconds to go in the second period. The Braves entered the third period up 4-2.

The Marines did not go down easy, however, as Patrick Henry struck on the power play 3:05 into the third period to cut the deficit down to one goal.

Long Beach was unable to score again, leading to the Braves being able to pull away with three unanswered goals to close out the game.

Aiden Cleary scored 2:50 after Henry to make it 5-3. Matthew Ferrante scored 1:30 after Cleary to make it 6-3 for Syosset.

With 2:09 left Daniel Disque closed the game out with a goal through traffic and secured the 7-3 win for the Braves.

Long Beach’s next game is also on Friday, as they face Half Hollow Hills at the Freeport Recreation Center, puck drop at 9:15 pm.
