Bellise Blanks Hornets

Matteo Bellise made twenty-seven stops as the Bethpage Eagles (10-3) won 1-0 over the Half Hollow Hills Hornets (7-4-0-1). The Eagles’ win gives them some breathing room at the top of standings against a Hornets team that trailed by three points with a game in hand at the start of the contest. Luke Guttman made thirty-one saves on thirty-two shots against, but all it took was one for the Eagles to seal the deal.

The Hornets outshot the Eagles 11-8 in the first frame, but failed to capitalize on two power play opportunities. After fifteen minutes of regulation the game remained scoreless. The Eagles came roaring back to outshot the Hornets 16-6 in the second stanza. Michael LoBosco buried a rebound to score the lone goal of the game with 3:30 gone by in the 2nd period. The Hornets narrowly outshot the Eagles 10-8 in the 3rd period, but were unable to find the back of the net even after pulling Guttman in favor of an extra attacker.

The Eagles were without their leading scorer from the 2022-2023 campaign, Marko Lisica, in the tightly contested matchup. The Hornets were without Jonathan Wheeler who served a one game suspension that was assessed after the end of regulation in Half Hollow Hills’ 4-3 victory over the VSSL Storm on Tuesday night. LISN has yet to receive the official scoresheet for Friday night’s matchup due to technical difficulties at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center.
