Sacred Heart University rolled to a commanding 8-2 victory over Kutztown University on Friday night at Martire Family Arena, showcasing the offensive firepower that has helped the Pioneers build a solid 7-4 record through 11 games this season. The win extended Sacred Heart’s strong form in MCHC play, while Kutztown’s struggles continued as they fell to 4-14 on the campaign.
Despite the lopsided final score, Kutztown managed to find the scoreboard twice against a potent Sacred Heart attack. Chase Canestra, who entered the game leading the Golden Bears with 15 goals and 27 points in 14 games, added another tally to his impressive season totals. Matt Flynn, playing in just his third game of the season, netted his second goal to complement his previous three-point performance through two contests.
The Golden Bears also received contributions from Connor McGinty, who picked up an assist in what appears to be his second game of the season, and Aidan Esack, who added a helper to his team-leading offensive numbers. Esack entered the contest with 15 goals and 21 points in 10 games, making him Kutztown’s most consistent offensive threat alongside Canestra.
Kutztown goaltender Jai Jani faced a relentless Sacred Heart offensive barrage, stopping 36 of 44 shots for an .818 save percentage in a busy night between the pipes. The loss highlighted the uphill battle facing the Golden Bears as they look to turn around a difficult season, while Sacred Heart continued to establish itself as a force to be reckoned with in MCHC competition.
