The University of Delaware Blue Hens exploded for six goals at Gold Ice Arena on Saturday night, completing a dominant 6-3 victory over Sacred Heart University to sweep the season series between the ECHC rivals. After splitting their October meetings, Delaware seized control of the rubber match behind a balanced offensive attack that saw six different players find the back of the net.

Zachary Solomon continued his torrid pace with a goal and assist, extending his season totals to 9 goals and 9 assists in 13 games played. The veteran forward has been Delaware’s most consistent threat, and his two-point performance helped stake the Blue Hens to an early advantage they would never relinquish. Michael DePrisco orchestrated much of Delaware’s offense from the point, distributing two assists to push his season assist total to 10 helpers in 12 games.

Delaware’s depth proved to be the difference-maker, as five players beyond Solomon contributed goals in the victory. Alex Birchard tallied his 10th goal of the season, while Ryan Anatra, James Mangano, and Matt Crowell each found the scoresheet with crucial markers. The balanced scoring attack showcased the Blue Hens’ improved offensive chemistry as they’ve worked to climb back to .500 following a sluggish start to the campaign.

Goaltender Andrew Gatti stood tall between the pipes for Delaware, turning aside 39 of 42 shots for a stellar .929 save percentage. Gatti’s composed performance helped the Blue Hens weather Sacred Heart’s offensive pressure throughout the contest, particularly during several penalty kill situations where his positioning and rebound control proved crucial. With the victory, Delaware improved to 11-9 overall while dealing Sacred Heart just their fifth loss in 14 games this season.
