Undefeated Sachem Moves to a perfect 7-0-0

Colin Kalberer scored the Game Winning Goal with 3:00 remaining in the first period, Thomas Konkowski had two goals in the third period, and Sachem defeated Ward Melville 9-2 to cap off another exciting week of SCHSHL action. 


Joseph Wandling opened the scoring for Sachem at 13:09 of the first period on a rebound off a Michael Mattera shot. Colin Kalberer went coast to coast to score an unassisted Short Handed Goal at 10:46 in the first period. Colin Kalberer scored another unassisted goal with 3:00 remaining in the first period. 

Entering the second period down 3-0, Ward Melville came out firing on all cylinders. A series of high danger scoring chances by the Patriots were stonewalled by Sachem netminder Scott Loeb. On the other end, Ward Melville goaltender Michael Sittler strung together a series of showstopping saves to keep the game within reach for the Patriots.

Sachem struck again at the start of the third period with an unassisted goal by Gregory Monthie. Cameron Kalberer made it 5-0 Sachem with 11:46 remaining in the game. Cameron Kalberer then scored an unassisted goal with 4:54 remaining in play. Mathew Dann opened the scoring for Ward Melville on the power play with 3:39 remaining. Just 18 seconds later, Colin Kalberer threaded the needle on a beautiful pass to Alp Octu who made it 7-1 Sachem. Sachem’s Thomas Konkowski scored a shorthanded goal with 2:05 remaining in play. Ward Meville’s John McCormick scored with 37 seconds remaining in play, but Konkowski fired right back with 9 seconds remaining to make the final score 9-2 Sachem.

Looking Forward

The Ward Melville Patriots will look to get back in the win column tonight at 9:40 PM when they take on the West Islip Lions. Sachem will square off with Kings park Commack on Wednesday November 8th at 9:20 PM.
