Walkerton Rallies Past Listowel 3-2 in Tournament Thriller at Tara Community Centre

Alexander Kraemer delivered the game-winning goal and added an assist as Walkerton overcame an early deficit to defeat Listowel 3-2 in a tightly contested NYIHSHL tournament matchup Saturday night at Tara Community Centre. The contest remained scoreless through the opening frame before erupting into a back-and-forth battle that wasn’t decided until the final period.

Listowel struck first in the second period when Kaden Zwygers found the back of the net just 59 seconds into the frame, with Jayden Martin recording the helper. Walkerton answered quickly as Ryan Brindley evened the score at 9:36 of the middle stanza, capitalizing on a setup from Kraemer to send the teams into the third period deadlocked at 1-1.

The final frame featured a flurry of goals that showcased both teams’ offensive capabilities. Jayden Martin gave Listowel a 2-1 advantage at 3:41 on the power play, taking advantage of Tucker Elliott’s minor penalty. However, Walkerton responded with authority, scoring twice in less than three minutes to seize control. Kraemer netted the equalizer unassisted at 4:54, then Maverick Takken provided the decisive blow at 7:43 with another unassisted tally.

Kraemer’s two-point performance led all skaters, while Martin matched him with a goal and assist for Listowel. The victory showcased Walkerton’s resilience in tournament play, overcoming both a penalty kill situation and a one-goal deficit in the crucial third period to advance with the hard-fought win.
