T-Birds Defeat Lions
Seven Goals, Seven Scorers for the T-Birds
No team in the SCHSHL has had a tougher schedule to open the season than the Connetquot Sayville BBP T-Birds. After a season opener against a Sachem team that remains undefeated, the T-Birds have squared off with 2nd place East Islip, 3rd place Kings Park-Commack as well as the defending champion St. Anthony’s Friars. Last night against Longwood the T-Birds picked up a 7-0 win.
Brent Brdey scored an unassisted goal with 5:44 remaining in the first period followed by a goal scored by Matthew Campagnola just over two minutes later. Fan favorite goaltender Anthony Frega looked strong in net for Longwood as he made several key stops early on. Longwood couldn’t find a rhythm offensively thanks to the stellar play of T-Birds goaltender Alexander Clark.
Zachary Martin scored midway through the second after deflecting a shot by second year defenseman Ryan DeLucie. Then Paul Wagner potted his first SCHSHL Varsity goal to make it 4-0 late in the second period. Brady Hall made it 5-0 just three seconds later on his first career SCHSHL Varsity goal.
Anthony Frega looked strong in net for Longwood to start the third, but was helped off the ice by a teammate after sustaining an injury. Lions goaltender Christopher Primiani went on to have a strong outing after entering in relief. The Lions netminder made multiple high danger saves right after entering the game. Eathan Brdey made it 6-0 on a beautiful backhanded shot on the power play. Then Chase Haggerty made it 7-0 on his first ever SCHSHL Varsity goal.
