HAUPPAUGE N.Y. (LISN) — Junior Cameron Kalberer netted a natural hat-trick in a four point performance to power Sachem (2-0) to a 7-1 victory over East Islip (0-2). Junior Michael DiGirolamo allowed one goal in a winning performance for Sachem. Patrick O’Shea allowed seven goals in his varsity debut for East Islip. 

Junior Joe Wandling scored his first of the season to make it 1-0 Sachem with 1:43 left in the opening frame. Kalberer blew by the East Islip defense as he entered the zone, nearly scored on O’Shea, and Wandling buried the rebound.  

29 seconds later, Kalberer lit the lamp on the power play to make it a two goal game. Kalberer said walked the line before sniping glove side high from above the left wing dot. 

Kalberer struck again with 11:30 left in the second stanza to put Sachem up 3-0. Senior Dom Oppedisano made a backhand saucer pass from beneath his own goal line, Kalberer came out of the box to collect it and sniped top shelf on the two on one. 

Kalberer scored his sixth of the season to complete the natural hat-trick with 10:57 left in the 3rd period. Oppedisano danced past two defenders at the point before moving it to Wandling, who made a backhand pass to Kalberer for the back door tap in. 

Junior James Drago potted his second of the year to put Sachem up 5-0 with 8:47 remaining in the third frame. Junior Chase Saunders was stoned by O’Shea, recovered the puck and made a feed to Drago who buried. 

Junior Caiden Marcus scored his first career varsity goal to extend the lead to six with 5:23 remaining in the 3rd period. Drago made a spinning pass across the slot for Marcus, who sniped top shelf from the back door 

Sophomore C.J. Pena scored his second of the season to make it 7-0 Sachem with 3:28 to go in the frame. Pena went end-to-end, beating multiple defenders along the way, before going backhand-forehand to score.  

Junior Logan Barton scored the lone East Islip goal of the game, his third of the season, to break the shutout with 1:23 left in regulation. Junior Jack Dolson was taken down by Sachem Senior Joey Capece as he drove towards the net, but DiGirolamo was knocked down on the play, and Barton buried it in the open net.
