Anthony Marazzito scored two power play goals as the East Islip Chiefs (12-1-2) rang in the new year with a 5-2 victory over the Connetquot Sayville BBP T-Birds (6-9). Ryan Anatra sniped top corner in his return to the lineup following an injury sustained during November of 2023. Jack Dolson scored the eventual game winner as Luke LaFata potted an empty netter. Corey McGovern picked up his fourth win of the campaign for the Chiefs. Shane Kirby was stellar in net for the T-Birds, but the Chiefs capitalized on the man advantage with two power play goals.

Ryan Anatra scored on a shot from the slot with 10:05 remaining in the 1st period off a drop pass by Thomas Ivers. Thirty-seven seconds later, Eathan Brdey evened the score on a shot from the slot. Alex DeLeon blocked a shot in the T-Birds zone, the puck came to Ricky Guterwill in transition who dumped the puck into the EI zone. Guterwill forced the EI defense to cough it up in the slot which led to Brdey’s quick shot that beat McGovern short side. Anthony Marazzito tapped one home from the back door on a 2 on 1 power play goal that was assisted by Thomas Ivers.

Jack Dolson scored with 5:39 remaining in the second stanza to put the Chiefs up 3-1. Dolson teamed up with Alex Carino to force a defensive zone turnover along the left wing half wall. The Chiefs rising star walked in and fired a shot from beneath the faceoff dot that beat the T-Birds goaltender far side.

Eathan Brdey was assessed a five minute major and game misconduct that brought his night to an abrupt end with 12:43 remaining in the final frame. Thirty-eight seconds later Anthony Marazzito scored the Chiefs lone goal on the five minute power play. The puck came to Marazzito right off the draw where the Chiefs sniper used a T-Birds as a screen as EI took a 4-1 lead. Kirby and the T-Birds penalty kill kept East Islip from capitalizing on the remaining four minutes and twenty-two seconds of the power play. Matt Campagnola sniped shortside on a wrist shot that came off a beautiful no look behind the back pass from Ryan Fleischauer to cut the EI lead to two with 2:29 remaining. The T-Birds called timeout to design a set play for a six on five opportunity with Kirby being pulled for an extra attacker. Luke LaFata potted an empty netter to seal the deal with 1:49 remaining in the game.
