Knights sweep season series against Lions

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (LISN)Senior Ronny Kemly lit the lamp four times and added two assists as the Kings Park Commack Knights (9-3-0) cruised to a dominant 15-3 victory over the West Islip Lions (3-9-0) on Monday night at the Rinx.

Senior Brian Prange potted scored four times in a five point outing.

Junior Jackson Ciofrone netted two goals and added three assists.

Senior Jacob Dufresne backstopped the Knights to his fifth win in six starts.

Junior Colin Hovanec made his sixth start of the campaign for the Lions.

Senior William Shields scored his fourth of the season with 11:05 remaining in the 1st period to make it 1-0 West Islip.

The Knights quickly responded, with Sophomore Aaron Haberman tying the game with 9:31 left in the first frame. It was the sophomore defenseman’s has two goal ‘s second of the season.

Ciofrone put the Knights up by one at the 8:50 mark of the opening stanza.

Kemly extended the Knights’ lead with 6:56 remaining in the 1st period.

20 seconds later, Kemly found the back of the net again to put KPC up 4-1.

The West Islip Lions captain, Senior Ciaran Pollard, scored his 19th of the year to cut the Knights lead to 4-2 with 6:00 left in the 1st period.

Ciofrone put KPC back up by three with 1:54 remaining in the 1st period.

14 seconds into the 2nd period, Kemly netted his third of the night to make it 6-2 Knights.

The KPC captain, Senior Jesse Lemza, potted his first of the night with 5:08 remaining in the middle frame.

Senior Brian Prange added a power play marker at the 3:42 mark of the second stanza to put the Knights up 8-2.

Senior James Mattel responded with first career varsity tally, to make it 8-3.

Kemly score a shorthanded, breakaway goal at the 2:17 mark of the 2nd period. It was Kemly’s fourth of the contest and 12th of the campaign.

Prange tucked his second of the game into the goal with nine seconds remaining in the second stanza.

Junior Jack Salva poked his 14th of the year into the net 11:38 remaining in the 3rd period.

Prange scored his seventh of the season to complete the hat-trick with 9:48 left in the final frame to make it 12-3 KPC.

Senior Gregory Galgano netted his third of the year at the 8:25 mark of the third stanza.

Prange scored his fourth of the game with 4:50 remaining in the 3rd period.

Lemza potted his second of the night15th of the game with 2:55 left in regulation to make it 15-3.

Upcoming Schedule

The surging Kings Park/ Commack Knights (9-3) are back in action on Wednesday, December 11 at 9:20 as they square off against the Connetquot/ Sayville T-Birds (2-10). The Knights triumphed 5-1 over the T-Birds back on Monday, October 7.

The two teams have been bitter rivals since the 2022-2023 season, when T-Birds star Matthew Hughes made 60 saves in a 1-0 shootout victory during the SCHSHL Quarterfinals .The Knights have won their last four against the T-Birds, including a 1-0 quarterfinals victory of their own last season.

The West Islip Lions (3-9) square off against the unbeaten St. Anthony’s Friars (12-0) on Sunday, December 15 at 7:50 pm.

The Friars won their first meeting against the Lions 13-2 back on Sunday, October 13. St. Anthony’s has not lost to West Islip since joining the SCHSHL. Senior Ciaran Pollard is 0-4 in his career against the Friars, but has been on the cusp of victory before.

Pollard scored twice and added an assist in his first career game against the Friars, a 6-3 loss. Last season, he scored once and had two helpers in a narrow 5-4 loss. The Lions captain has been limited to just one goal in his last two games to the Friars, but don’t count him or his senior heavy squad out in what could be their last chance to beat St. Anthony’s.
